As I write this, I’m listening to what sounds like gunfire. It’s been going on for the past six hours or so, and sometimes the noise gets so loud it’s almost as if our house is being fired at. Of course, I’m not listening to gun shots. We moved out of the slum area a year ago. No, it’s Bonfire Night here in jolly old England. Bonfire Night is a chance for Brits to set off fireworks continuously to commemorate Guy Fawkes, the dude who tried to blow up Westminster. Too bad he missed. Hahaha.
Anyway, I haven’t updated my blog in what seems like ages, so let me take this opportunity to let you all know what’s been going on lately. A few weeks ago, I went to see Jerry Springer: the Opera with my friend Alasdair, who was in town on a stopover from a swank business trip. Anyway, the opera is hilarious, and being the only two North Americans in the audience, we laughed at all the jokes. The Brits didn’t get half of it. Figures. Two things stick out from the show: the first act ends with a troop of Klansmen tap dancing around a gunshot-wounded Jerry, and after the show, we were given buttons that had great phrases like “crackwhore” and “slut junkie” written on them. So basically, I got my Christmas presents sorted already. :) Anyway, it was a great night, and England had to go and ruin it at the end by raining. Damn contrary weather.
The other exciting thing I’ve done lately is go to the “dogs”. Which means that I went to see the Greyhounds race at the track. I’ve never been to the track before, and I kind of felt sleazy being there, especially on a Saturday night. Still, it was damn hilarious. Of course, out of the four of us who went, I was the only jerk who didn’t win anything. Good thing my date did, as he was paying for my booze.
Monday night, we went to a screening of the Matrix, and I was sorry we did. What a waste of my time, and everyone else’s. Check out Shane’s blog for his review. The only other news is that we’re coming home early, but I think Shane’s already told you all that.
